Sticky Sesame Chicken

Crispy, golden chicken pieces covered in a sticky, sweet-salty sauce with aromas of garlic, ginger, and sesame - it's comfort food with an Asian twist

Sticky Sesame Chicken

Ingredients

  • 800 g chicken breast
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil or oil spray
  • Sauce
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or white wine vinegar
  • 1 ½ tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • Additionally
  • 400 ml rice
  • Sesame seeds
  • Spring onions

Instructions

  1. Mix cornstarch, all-purpose flour, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Coat the chicken pieces well.
  2. Oven: Preheat to 200°C fan. Place the chicken on a baking sheet with parchment paper and brush/spray lightly with oil. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes, turning halfway, until the pieces are crispy and cooked through.
  3. Air fryer: Preheat to 190°C. Place the chicken in a single layer in the basket, spray lightly with oil. Cook for 20 - 25 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally.
  4. Sauce
  5. Combine soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, honey, brown sugar, vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger in a small saucepan
  6. Heat over medium heat until the sauce bubbles and thickens slightly
  7. Serving
  8. When the chicken is done, pour the warm marinade into a large bowl. Add the crispy chicken pieces and toss quickly to coat all pieces with the sticky sauce.
  9. Cook the rice
  10. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and spring onions, and serve immediately with rice and, for example, broccoli
