Danish Beef Sandwich

The beef sandwich is genuine Danish comfort food. A juicy beef patty in a warm bun, topped with soft onions, pickled beets, pickled cucumbers, and a good splash of brown gravy. A messy, flavorful classic that combines the best of a burger and traditional Danish cuisine.

Danish Beef Sandwich

Ingredients

  • Patties
  • 300 g beef
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • Soft Onions
  • 2 large onions
  • 25 g butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • Brown Gravy
  • 25 g butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 200 ml milk
  • 200 ml water
  • ½ beef bouillon cube
  • Gravy browning
  • Salt and pepper
  • Accompaniments
  • 2 burger buns
  • Pickled cucumbers
  • Pickled beets
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Remoulade
  • Fried onions

Instructions

  1. Soft Onions
  2. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings
  3. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat
  4. Add the onions to the pan and let them cook slowly. This takes about 20 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and pepper
  6. Patties
  7. Shape the meat into two patties and press them flat
  8. Season generously with salt and pepper on both sides
  9. Fry the patties in butter on a hot pan
  10. Brown Gravy
  11. Melt butter in a pot and whisk in flour to form a roux
  12. Dissolve the bouillon in 300ml boiling water and add gradually while whisking constantly
  13. When the gravy begins to thicken, season with salt and pepper and add gravy browning to the desired color
  14. Assembly
  15. Warm the burger buns
  16. Spread mustard, ketchup, and remoulade on the bottom bun
  17. Place the patty and soft onions on top
  18. Pour a little gravy over
  19. Add pickled beets and pickled cucumbers on top
  20. Sprinkle with fried onions and finish with the top bun and plenty of gravy
